บทความนี้เราจะไปเรียนรู้ “สุภาษิตและสำนวนในภาษาอังกฤษ” กัน ซึ่งเป็นสำนวนที่มาจากหลายๆประเทศและหลายๆแห่งทั่วโลก รวมถึงประเทศไทยด้วย ถ้าพร้อมแล้วไปดูกันค่ะ

Don’t count your chickens before they are hatched. -อย่าหวังน้ำบ่อหน้า อย่าตั้งความหวังลมๆ แล้งๆ
People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. -อย่าตำหนิคนอื่นเขา ในเมื่อตัวเราก็ไม่ต่างกัน (ว่าแต่เขาอิเหนาเป็นเอง)
You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. -อย่าข่มเขาโคขืนให้กินหญ้า (ให้คำแนะนะได้แต่ไม่สามารถบังคับให้ทำตามได้)
When the cat’s away the mice will play. – (แมวไม่อยู่ หนูร่าเริง) หน้าไว้หลังหลอก
A real king is greater than his crown. A real man is more than his clothes. -ความเป็นคนไม่ได้อยู่ที่เสื้อผ้า ความเป็นราชาไม่ได้อยู่ที่มงกุฎ
Let a sleeping dog lie. -อย่าแกว่งเท้าหาเสี้ยน อย่าฟื้นฝอยหาตะเข็บ (อย่าหาเรื่องใส่ตัว)
One swallow doesn’t make a summer. -อย่าด่วนสรุปความก่อนฟังเหตุผลให้ถ้วนถี่
A bad workman always blames his tools. -รำไม่ดีโทษปี่โทษกลอง
Cross the stream where it is shallowest. -จงหาวิธีง่ายที่สุดในการแก้ปัญหา
A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. -จงพอใจในสิ่งที่มีอยู่
Don’t cross a bridge until you come to it. -อย่าตีตนไปก่อนไข้
Cut your coat according to your cloth. -นกน้อยทำรังแต่พอตัว
The proof of the pudding is in the eating. -ค่าของคนอยู่ผลของงาน
Don’t make a mountain out of a mole hill. -อย่าทำเรื่องเล็กให้เป็นเรื่องใหญ่
Be not afraid of growing slowly Be afraid only of standing still. ( Chinese Prov. ) -อย่าห่วงเลยถ้าต้องไปอย่างช้าช้า ที่น่ากลัวมากกว่าก็คือหยุดอยู่กับที่
It takes two to make a quarrel. -ตบมือข้างเดียวไม่ดัง
No man is happy who does not think himself so. -คนที่ปราศจากความสุขก็คือคนที่คิดว่าตัวเองไม่มีความสุข (สุขหรือทุกข์อยู่ที่ใจ)
It’s never too late to mend. -ไม่มีคำว่าสายเกินไปสำหรับการแก้ไข้ * One good turn deserves another. แตงโมเลื้อยไปแตงไทเลื้อยมา * The harder the storm the sooner it’s over. -เรื่องใหญ่จบง่ายกว่าเรื่องเล็ก
A change of pasture makes fat calves. -ประสบการณ์ใหม่ๆ ทำให้วิสัยทัศน์กว้างไกล
Advice after mischief is like medicine after death. -กว่าถั่วจะสุก งาก็ไหม้ (สายเกินแก้)
When the building is about to fall down all the mice desert it. -เมื่อหมดอำนาจวาสนา คนนำพาก็ลาจาก
Don’t wash dirty linen in public. -(อย่าเอาเรื่องในบ้านไปเล่านอกบ้าน) อย่าสาวไส้ให้กากิน
If you can’t bite better not show your teeth. -อย่าขู่ใครเขาถ้าเราไม่แน่จริง
Make hay while the sun shines. ( Tide and time wait for no one. ) -น้ำขึ้นให้รับตัก
The best way to succeed in life is to act on the advice you give to others. -วิธีที่ดีทีสุดในการสร้างความสำเร็จในชีวิตก็คือปฏิบัติตามคำที่แนะนำผู้อื่น
